The withdrawal of Sardinian Warrior, who would have been the selection, promotes Lockinge runner-up DANCING GEMINI to first choice as he's remarkably similar to last year's winner and could well continue to improve in this division. Strong cases can also be made for Rosallion, Lead Artist and Notable Speech in the rematch from Newbury, especially for the Hannon colt who was successful on this card last year. Winners have emerged from all over the shop draw-wise in the last decade, yet many of this year's market principals are drawn middle to high. Aidan O'Brien is the first port of call when he's captured ten of these, and it's hard to turn a blind eye to Ryan Moore riding Gstaad (second choice) instead of Warsaw. However, Albert Einstein was seemingly the yard's principal hope until injury intervened and that heightens interest in the Marble Hill form in which he beat Power Blue and ANDAB. The latter moved menacingly deep into that Group 3 and, as he'd suffered a small setback prior to the race, further improvement can be anticipated. Wathnan's impressive debut winners Postmodern and Underwriter appear to carry plenty of confidence, while Oisin Murphy keeps the faith in American Gulf, who is not without hope of providing his yard with a belated fourth Coventry after capturing three during their glory days in the 1990s.[Alistair Jones]

The Australian mare Asfoora was the best horse in this contest last June but her preparation has been very different this time, arriving much later with no time for a British prep run, and there's no knowing what effect fitting blinkers will have on her. It would be good to see her win again but the runner-up Regional and the fourth Believing don't have a lot of ground to make up from last year's race. Believing, in particular, hardly knows how to run a bad race and she always wants to win but she had every chance from this draw last June and perhaps this course isn't quite the perfect fit for her. MGHEERA has a bit to find on bare form but she's unexposed at 5f on good ground or firmer, is going the right way for her new yard and this stiff test should suit. Night Raider can give it a good shot from the front, while among the bigger prices American Affair remains of interest and Starlust will relish the conditions.[Emily Weber]

In a cracking clash of Guineas winners, the percentage call lies with FIELD OF GOLD who is top rated after a brilliant performance in Ireland and continues to improve. Ruling Court (second choice) got first run on the selection at Newmarket but he too is progressive and participates in an enthralling rematch, while Henri Matisse is the other main contender having landed the French version.[Steve Boow]

It was 2018 when Willie Mullins last won this race but he's had three seconds since and fields two of the strongest candidates this time round in Triumph Hurdle winner Poniros and the King and Queen's unexposed staying prospect Reaching High. Preference, however, is for ALPHONSE LE GRANDE (nap) who travelled over from Ireland to such stunning effect last season and may well remain capable of better. In all, ten of the runners are trained in Ireland, with plenty of interest among their other runners too, and the one from France also needs a close look as the in-form 8yo Woot City (second choice) shapes like a strong stayer and seems to be on a good mark. The British are by no means bereft of hope and the best of them may be Manxman ahead of East India Dock (renewing Triumph rivalry with Poniros) and Liari.[Richard Austen]

A host with chances. Haatem could be a cut above if back to his best but it's 12 months since he was at that level and this is also his first attempt over 1m2f. Ecureuil Secret's impressive handicap success at the Epsom Derby meeting suggests he can win at Listed level but drying ground is an unknown for him given he's encountered only softer than good. Enfjaar (second choice) should be spot on for this after his Sandown reappearance and Roger Varian has done well in this race but narrow preference is for MEYDAAN. This 4yo was having only his second outing since a gelding operation when pushing Liberty Lane close in a Goodwood Listed event last month and is given a chance to build on that improved showing. Willie Mullins has won the last two runnings and CHARLUS, who showed considerable promise during his short Flat career in France, has potential off his current mark. The progressive Gosden contender French Master could be a big danger, however, especially as he might be just the type to benefit from blinkers. A strong pace in this big field would aid Barnso, who is next on the list. The progressive Caballo De Mar could also be involved, along with the unexposed Aeronautic.[Ben Hutton]
